It always amazes me as I look back over the Summer, quite how much we manage to achieve in such a short space of time. So many activities are happening simultaneously in any given day and it speaks volumes that our campers (your children) are dedicated in producing such wonderful shows in a very short time frame.
The drama team were so proud and impressed as upper camp really did ‘rock the house’. It was wonderful to see ALL of upper camp participate together. The energy and confidence was evident in this production and the show ended with the entire camp singing along to ‘We are the Champions’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
Lower camp’s production of ‘Mary Poppins’ was ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!’ Even the thunderstorm just after starting did not dampen their spirits. Their performance was such a high standard and as always, the sheer delight on their faces is what gets me every time. It is not easy to get up on stage and perform for such a large audience, but they do it with ease because they are at their summer home with their summer family, feeling comfortable trying something new and learning new skills.
Our staff show (a crazy camp version of ‘The Wizard of Oz) was very entertaining. For some staff members it is their first time performing onstage. Again, another quality of camp that grows throughout the Summer, the ability to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, knowing that everyone is rooting for you and giving positive encouragement.
Some campers have already given some suggestions for the shows they would like to do next Summer and showed an interest in taking up drama during the Winter.
I would like to thank our amazing drama team for their dedication and talent. I would also like to thank all the staff who helped out with costumes, props and anything else needed. Our backstage crew (aka O&A Karyn and some of her crew). As always, it has been a pleasure!
