We all probably know what STEM is right? You know, the learning and teaching experience focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics? The next level, STEAM, includes the artistic component and then STREAM adds on a research dimension. Sounds like boring schoolwork, right? WRONG! Camp Towanda actually boasts an excellent, engaging STEAM program! Last year, Jared, who has a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, started the STEAM POWERED program at camp, which had campers engaged in some awesome experiments! We built marshmallow catapults out of popsicle sticks, mushed different ingredients together to make slime, and many other activities! It was great! And, of course, you can’t discount the LEGO ROOM where creativity flourishes and the LEGO MASTER PROGRAM truly gets campers problem solving and tinkering. We even have STREAM at camp, and although it may not involve research, perhaps we can count Recycling as our “R”! Our Green Machine program centered around single stream recycling has campers actively thinking about the environment and how to responsibly live in it. Besides, there’s also that STREAM that flows out of Sunset Lake (yet creativity flows in)! Whatever the acronym may be, we believe in the power of it! Be on a look out this summer for some more STREAM activities, a revamped rocketry program and of course fun times in the LEGO Room! Totally time to SCREAM FOR STREAM!
