Camp Towanda Tennis continues to grow in popularity with several exciting new developments. Just a few of the highlights…top quality instruction, new tournament play opportunities and four different age groups reached Wayne County finals…Junior Girls were the Champs! Dani Gil, our Tennis Director, and his staff organized a dynamic program for all levels and abilities, including fun and challenging games and rotating stations focusing on technique, agility and fitness.
Our program continues to follow the USTA youth guidelines, giving our campers the opportunity to play with the right tennis balls and size courts for their ability. With smaller courts, shorter tennis racquets, and balls that bounce slower and lower (progression from red, orange, green to yellow),beginner players – especially kids – can learn more easily and quickly. Our Master Tennis program enjoyed a few notable improvements. We introduced a new App on the courts, that allowed our coaches to film and analyze a player’s technique. The kids loved this interactive tool and we will be sending Master Tennis Senior parents (those who completed at least 10 sessions) a full report of our analysis to share with their coaches at home. Campers received another “cool” dri-fit Vamos Towanda tee and hat (as did our parents!), giving them the competitive edge as they traveled to intercamp tournaments. And after their morning lessons on the court, campers got a sweet treat with extra trip to the chocolate milk station to refuel their bodies! Our Nutritionist Lauren Cohen gave us all the great statistics of why chocolate milk is the perfect post-workout beverage packed with protein, potassium and electrolytes (take that Gatorade!)!
With our Towanda Tennis Staff predominantly hailing from Spain, we joke that you learn tennis AND Spanish on ourcourts! Spain’sveryown Rafael Nadal is even the inspiration for our tennis slogan “Vamos Towanda”! So in that spirit we wanted to capture the essence of our tennis program with a quote from Rafa himself… “Competing, or just for fun, whatever, simply enjoy and try your best.” That’s the Towanda spirit! Mucho Bueno Tennis at Towanda!
