It was another summer of giving back this year at Towanda. With the L.I.T.’s leading the charge, we raised over $10,000 to help support several charities including Project Morry, SCOPE and The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB).
Project Morry was born out of summer camp pioneer Morry Stein’s dream that all children, regardless of economic status, should experience the life-changing gift of summer camp. Beginning as a summer camp experience, Project Morry has grown into a comprehensive year-round youth development organization, with Morry’s Camp at the heart of our program. Camp Towanda participates and supports Project Morry in many ways; most significantly with our Swim & Walk-A-Thon!

SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) is a national non-profit that helps send underserved kids to non-profit summer camps. Mitch is the National Board President.
Towanda is involved in many fundraising and hosting events throughout the year; including our 2018 Visiting Day VIP Parking Raffle for Scope. Winners for Visiting Day 2018 Premier Parking are: Michael Fuhrman, The Blaine Family and Lani Davis/Steven Finver! Thanks to all the families that participated in the raffle. We raised a good chunk of money!
On September 16, many of the 2017 Dorm Girls helped represent Towanda at the SCOPE Junior Leadership Council (JLC) meeting in NYC. See pics below! As member of the JLC, they create their own fundraising opportunities and bring them to their local communities. Check out Ella Gitler’s recap of her JLC experience Here!

On October 12th, our very own Towanda parent, Jessica Silverstein (JoJo’s mom!), organized a “Mix & Mingle” adult “Mini-Mitzvah” event to bring local vendors together with those looking to plan bar/bat mitzvahs and other parties in Northern New Jersey. All proceeds went towards SCOPE. Check out: https://www.eventsbyjes.events and https://support.scopeusa.org/towanda.

This past summer, the L.I.T.’s spent one of their days off to volunteer at Summit Camp, our neighbors that specialize in campers with special needs. They taught the kids Ghost and participated in many activities. Everyone came away from the experience humbled and proud.
FOUNDATION FIGHTING BLINDESS
This coming Spring 2018, will be the annual Foundation Fighting Blindness’ VisonWalk (date to be announced) in New York City. Team Towanda proudly leads the warm up exercises and uses the event not only for a good cause, but a great excuse for another reunion!
We always have a great showing of staff, campers and Alumni; last year’s VisionWalk was in Flushing Meadows at the old World’s Fair grounds (also where Stephanie and Mitch got married 33 years ago this month)!
Be sure to order (if you didn’t on Visiting Day) your highly collectible 2018 VisionWalk Team Towanda T-shirt to help support and of course to sport at the VisionWalk this spring in NYC! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to order yours before it’s too late!
And a big thank you to those “adults” (Parents, staff, alumni and Friends of Towanda) that were able join us at the Taste For Sight wine event October 11 at City Winery in Greenwich Village. This event raised over $130,000.00!
Towanda pride in giving back and caring! More events to come!
